KIDS U 2019

UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE CAMPS 2019

Brick by Brick:  Architectural Camp (Grades 3rd-9th, rising) June 10-14, 9:00-12:00

This camp explores the world of building in LEGO® scale by researching different designs through the ages.  Students will explore the real world by seeing how engineers and architects work together to build world class projects.  Combining this knowledge will lead to city designing, planning and building a LEGO® CITY of group’s choice.

Minimum: 10

Maximum students:  25

Hours: 15 hours

Fee: $209

NEW: Love of the Brick (Grades 3rd -9th, rising) June 17-21, 9:00-12:00

For 87 years, LEGOS® has inspired people to use a simple brick to create everything from building sets, works of art, theme parks and more. With the use of thousands of LEGOS®, we will explore the vast world of LEGOS® from its humble beginnings to reaching the pinnacle of becoming the world’s largest toy company. After thoroughly examining principles from an engineer and architect points of view, LEGO® Land and the House of LEGOS® will be studied. Each day, a STEM component will be used to solve the challenges presented in class. If you love to build and create with LEGOS®, this camp for you.

Minimum: 10

Maximum students: 25

Hours: 15

Fee: $209

EV3 SUMO Robot, Wrestling Style (Grades 3rd-9th, rising) June 17-21, 1:00-4:00

Enter the Sumo Wrestling world with an in-depth look at their enriched history, and then design your own LEGO® Mindstorm EV3 robot to challenge the competitor and force them outside the ring. Students will learn how to use sensors like touch and color in the designing of their SUMO Bot, in addition to coding strategies. Implement effective programming strategies you have learned to earn the rank of “yokosuno” (grand champion). This camp is an introductory level to EV3 robotics. Are you ready for the challenge?

Minimum: 10

Maximum students: 20

Hours: 15

Fee: $269

NEW: Robotic Engineer LEGO® Lab (Grades 4th-9th, rising) June 24-28, 9:00-12:00

If you love robots and have experience building them, this class is for you. After a quick overview of building and programming, the majority of the camp will focus on more difficult LEGO® Mindstorm EV3 robot projects. Students will be presented with real world problems and challenged to solve like a robot designer. This camp is offered to those who have extensive building and programming knowledge. Students will be highly encouraged to investigate future jobs in the field of robotics and programming.

Minimum: 10

Maximum students: 20

Hours: 15

Fee: $269

NEW: Junior Robotic Engineer LEGO® Lab (Grades 2nd -4th, rising) June 24-28, 1:00-4:00

If you love robots, this camp offers a beginning course in robotics. The objective of this course is to introduce younger students to building and basic coding, as well as problem solving strategies. Students will work hands-on in teams to design, build, program and document their progress. This camp will develop students to program and build to learn basic engineering principles to move to a more advanced level.

Minimum: 10

Maximum students: 20

Hours: 15

Fee: $269

BRICKS and ARCHITECTURE (Grades 3rd-9th, rising) July 8-12, 9:00-12:00

Experience the world of famous architects, their designs and the history behind their famous buildings. Explore Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece, Fallingwater, as well as some the world’s most impressive skyscrapers. Through intense research, students will recreate and reconstruct their rendition of these famous architectural feats using thousands of LEGOs.

LEGO® Makers (Grades 3rd-9th, rising) July 8-12, 1:00-4:00

If you like to think outside the box and explore ways to create new inventions, this camp is for you.  Challenges will be assigned each day to spark creative ideas to solve problems by using thousands of LEGO® gears, technical elements and motors. This is the ultimate in DYI of LEGO® engineer building, learning and sharing.

EV3 LEGO® Battle Robot (Grades 3rd-9th, rising) July 15-19, 9:00-12:00

Based on the popular robotic competition pitting bots against bots, students will design an EV3 robot to compete in a battle type arena. Designing, building, programming and coding will be implemented to have a bot to battle in a single elimination tournament until there is only one champion! It’s a unique experience because you will compete against an opponent and the board. Students will be highly encouraged to investigate future jobs in the field of robotics and programming.
